How We Care for Program Partipants

Learn More About How Our Program Helps Men Recover

Because Our Masters Camp is biblically based, many of our treatment methods are centered in Christ word while others are based on clinically traditional models of recovery. In this way we treat both the physical and the spiritual aspects of drug dependence with the ultimate goal being a complete spiritual regeneration of the individual along with a firmly established relationship with Jesus.

Below are listed many of the day to day treatments clients participate in on a daily basis.

Biblical Studies

Exploring and understanding God’s word plays a major part at many of the functions at Our Masters Camp. We create many opportunities for men to immerse themselves in biblical studies and in different settings. Whether it be morning meditation, Sunday school, or during theologian led group seminars, we want the men to gain a better understanding of God’s love and authority in their lives so that they will be able to accept his grace and forgiveness, and ultimately enable them to forgive themselves and others.

Church Attendance

Every Sunday and Wednesday, program participants attend church services at Community Freewill Baptist Church of Pikeville, TN. These services allow for men to worship freely while forming relationships with a body of believers outside of Our Masters Camp. The church is very receptive to helping the guys feel welcome and appreciated.

We employ two state certified addiction counselors on staff who are also believers in Christ to help the men get valuable class discussions and personal one-on-one counseling to help them sort out their past and create a plan for their future. On top of that, our director is an ordained minister and evangelical who is extremely passionate about helping the men get excited to be in recovery and standing up for God. He also counsels men from a spiritual standpoint either through one on one discussions or in a class room setting.

Exercise Therapy

There is no shortage of workout machinery, free weights, and sports activities during a program participant’s stay at The Camp. From the administration staff to the residents, we love being fit and helping the men get fit. While many of the guys elect to just enjoy the outdoors or participate in recreational sporting and games, others choose to engage in weight and cardio training.

Life Skills and Men’s Issues

Life skills training is meant to demystify the everyday challenges that often perplex men struggling in addiction. This includes areas such as personal finance in terms of budgeting, navigating social situations as a person in recovery, teaching men about what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate relationships with women, and how to have a healthy self-image that is not performance based but is instead based on God’s love for each and every one of them.

Seminars / Class Room Lectures

We regularly spend time in the class room exploring spiritual and recovery related topics that are led by counselors, people with extended recovery experience, or spiritually gifted leader such as our guest pastors and lecturers. These discussions are often biblically based or clinically based, working through various recover related bible studies as well as Matrix coursework.

Peer Support Groups

Peer support groups have many benefits that help our men understand that they are not alone in their struggle, and that there are others suffering and overcoming situations similar to their own. It is also a tool that helps develop community and comradery amongst the men.

These groups allow men to build off of the knowledge and power of the group as a whole so that they become stronger emotionally and learn practical skills from each other’s experience. Peer support groups will usually have an administrator or senior resident facilitate the meeting.

Work Therapy

Work therapy functions at two important levels. First, it allows men to work as part of a team so that they can learn to be accountable to themselves and their peers. In addiction, people often allow their responsibilities to overwhelm them and this a small step in gaining back that ground. Second, work therapy helps us keep our cost down (a savings we pass to you) by helping maintain the vast 100 acre property we sit on. Work therapy includes tending the grounds, keeping vehicles clean, keeping meeting and class room areas clean, and performing special projects. We also encourage men to use any special skills they may have in their personal professional lives if they choose to do so.
